Please add this small feature to the nautilus address bar:

If one types a filename into the status bar, it should be executed as a program
if executable, and in the PATH, like the "Run Application" dialog box.

If the filename is a registered document type, please open it with the
appropriate viewer.

E.g. typing "gedit" into the address bar would run gedit.  Typing
/boot/grub/grub.conf would open it in gedit.

This is a feature of the Windows Explorer I find quite helpful.

I think we have better ways to do this these days. Use the alt-f2 functionality or use the GNOME 3 overview.
