GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 309759
add "Run Application" functionality to address bar
Last modified: 2012-08-14 22:02:18 UTC
Please add this small feature to the nautilus address bar: If one types a filename into the status bar, it should be executed as a program if executable, and in the PATH, like the "Run Application" dialog box. If the filename is a registered document type, please open it with the appropriate viewer. E.g. typing "gedit" into the address bar would run gedit. Typing /boot/grub/grub.conf would open it in gedit. This is a feature of the Windows Explorer I find quite helpful.
Thanks for your bug report! This issue is similar to bug 309127, which is fixed by the patch under [1]. [1] http://mail.gnome.org/archives/nautilus-list/2005-June/msg00196.html
I think we have better ways to do this these days. Use the alt-f2 functionality or use the GNOME 3 overview.
