Last modified: 2011-07-10 02:43:09 UTC
Distribution/Version: Gentoo/amd64 The current parsing of the result of SIOCGIFCONF jumps by a strange offset.. This patch works on linux 2.6.11 on both x86 and amd64

Not sure about this; I recall this isn't entirely trivial because the details vary between platforms. Really need to go back and look at what Steven's book has to about this
I'm not quite sure, but could http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=15007 possibly related to this?
Now: https://launchpad.net/products/gnome-netstatus/+bug/21234
looks like the same bug
could a maintainer comment on the patch?
From: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-netstatus/+bug/21234/comments/10 "the patch that posted upstream http://bugs.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=307422 fixes this issue."
still happening with GNOME 2.16, the patch seems to work fine
This bug is rather severe for inexperienced 64bit users. And now that modern Intels are 64bit too, many more people will fall into this category. Is there anything I could do to help this patch go through? Does it need testing? Debugging?
I guess gnome-netstatus is now unmaintained.
Note that there is the similar bug 453070 which suggest a somewhat different patch, namely http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453070#c3 I have implemented the latter on my x86_64 Fedora box ["rawhide"], and it works perfectly.
gnome-netstatus development has been stalled [1]. Maintainers don't have future development plan so i am closing the bugs as WONTFIX. [1] http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2011-June/msg00073.html
