GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 306829
Screensaver Preference should include options for different screensaver setting for different power modes
Last modified: 2012-03-07 09:37:12 UTC
Distribution/Version: FC4 I have a laptop which obviously is used with two different power modes. Plugged in and on battery. I also enjoy using the XAnalogTV screensaver, but this screen saver is a power using brute, and while this isn't a real problem, it will suck a battery dry in about 20 minutes. It would be great if systems with multiple power options (how to know?) could have multiple preferences, one for each power mode. So for example, I could say while I'm plugged in, run these screen saver settings, and while I'm on battery then run these screen saver settings. This would allow me to then use XAnalogTV when plugged in, and to just blank the screen when on battery. I know this is very trivial (I could just select the blander option) but it doesn't hurt to ask ;-]

This is a very important bug to fix, since so many of the screensavers use 100% CPU while running. This should never be done while on battery power, unless a user explicitly enables it.
any news for this report?
Someone reported here https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-screensaver/+bug/18284 that GNOME 3 does not really support screensavers. Is that true?
According to its developer, xscreensaver is not under active development anymore. It is unlikely that there will be any further active development. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping - Please feel free to reopen this bug report in the future if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
