Description Lionel Dricot 2005-04-14 15:57:28 UTC
Please describe the problem:
The sound of the following mov file is very broken with totem-gstreamer on
ubuntu Hoary.

http://www.lgodj.com/mov/America%20We%20Stand%20As%20One.mov

I use the alsa output with a C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 sound card.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Download the file
2. Play it with totem.

Actual results:
You hear a lot of scratchy noises ov C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738er the sound
(but you can hear the "music")

Expected results:
Just hear the "music" (well, if we can call this "music")

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Other information:
Please, no flame about the content of the file. I know it can be very
controversial.

The link doesn't work, can you attach it or provide a working link?
Comment 2 Lionel Dricot 2005-06-10 19:32:20 UTC
http://ploum.fritalk.com/America%20We%20Stand%20As%20One.mov (I've put it on my
own webserver, I don't want to put 28Mo of this crap on the gnome bugzilla)

The sound is completely broken with ALSA (it looks like a WAWA pedal):

gst-launch-0.8 filesrc location=/home/ploum/Films/divers/America\ We\ Stand\ As\
One.mov ! spider ! osssink

With osssink (ossink instead of alsasink in the above command line), the sound
is not relly broken but you can hear "tik tik" every half second, really annoying.

With esdsink, there's no problem.

This is the only video I've seen with this problem.

Oups... seems that, even with esdsink, there's a "tik tik" but later in the song
Comment 4 Tim-Philipp Müller 2006-01-23 14:00:20 UTC
Works fine in GStreamer 0.10, re-assigning to gst-plugins (0.8) and reopening, as a working link to the file has been provided.

For what it's worth, there have been a few fixes in 0.8 CVS (alsasink and audioscale) that might fix the problem.
Comment 5 Tim-Philipp Müller 2006-02-06 09:52:04 UTC
Closing, as it's actually fixed in 0.10 and we don't have the resources to continue fixing 0.8 bugs at this point.
