GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 29967
multiload_applet should have SMP cpu load support
Last modified: 2005-01-09 05:42:13 UTC
Package: gnome-applets Version: 1.2.3 Severity: wishlist >Originator: Christian Marillat >Organization: net >Synopsis: >Class: >Gnome-Libs-Release: gnome-libs-1.2.8 >Environment: System: Linux falcon.wanadoo.fr 2.2.17 #1 dim oct 1 16:10:29 CEST 2000 i686 unknown Architecture: i686 Distribution: Debian Version: woody >Description: Hi, I would like the CPU load display of multiload_applet to be able to display the per-CPU load when running on an SMP system, the same way that gtop can when running in SMP mode. The prefered display mode would be to run as one panel instance but visually display as if it were (n) seperate instances. The visual elements do not have to be non-contiguous or independantly-moveable. The properties dialog should have a selection for SMP mode and would be 'off' in a default configuration. I also don't see a need to be able to select individual CPUs for display. Either displaying all CPUs or the CPU aggregate should be sufficient. ------- Bug moved to this database by debbugs-export@bugzilla.gnome.org 2001-01-27 17:02 ------- This bug was previously known as bug 29967 at http://bugs.gnome.org/ http://bugs.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29967 Originally filed under the gnome-applets product and general component. Has this been fixed in a later release?
No. Christian
This bug is still not fixed in 2.0
Does this applet use libgtop btw? Maybe the features should be implemented there for other apps to use them also?
Yes bug reazssigned to libgtop
Has any of this changed lately?
Here no, but the BTS contains a patch for that.
Hmm, libgtop has had SMP support since before version 1.0. See examples/smp.c for an example. Reassigning to the multiload_applet. Christian, just where are we supposed to find this patch, it's not attached here, and the "BTS" isn't mentioned anywhere.
BTS is the Debian Bug Tracking System. http://bugs.debian.org Sebastien Bacher is the maintainer for this package and may help, because I can't find this patch.
I feel this applet should operating similarly to the way the battery applet will operate (when I get around to it). The applet on the panel will show one value (the total combined load/charge), clicking on the applet will open up something (in this case gnome-system-monitor) that gives a more detailed breakdown (per CPU, per battery whatever). After all, this isn't going to look too good UI wise if we have 256 separate CPU applets displayed on the panel. Basically, the panel applet is simply to give an overview, if you want details, you'll open the tool the panel applet links to.
