Description David Richards 2005-01-26 15:16:48 UTC
I hope that Outlook-isms aren't forcing some of the flow of autocomplete
because it's working in a manner that is too aggresive.

I'm attaching screen shots, related to this.

Shot 1, I'm start to type in "mike@largo.com" and it hits my local contact
list, gets someone with the name of "Mike" and correctly shows them in the
pulldown, but also physically changes the entry widget. It should never
change your text unless you accept it by arrowing down or hitting your
right arrow.

Shot 2, I continue to type in "mike@largo.com" and because it made the
changes in the first shot to the entry text, I end up with "Mike@largo.com"
not "mike@largo.com".

Shot 3, I typed in "mpearlma@largo.com" put in a comma and a space and
because it found that address it alters my entry and displays their full
name instead of the address I have entered. The old version didn't do
this. Text in that widget should only be altered if the user selects it
with mouse or keyboard.

FYI in first shot, other bugs already reported are still valid. White
space below names and lack of email addresses next to names in
pulldown widget.

Patch for replacing the partial auto-filled name with the user entered value

found a problem, will fix it.
Comment 10 Sushma Rai 2005-09-30 09:08:06 UTC
Fixing this needs ABI break, so moving to 2.5.1

Comment 13 Stephen 2006-10-13 12:12:23 UTC
Right, this is ridiculous. Evolution is now at 2.8.1 and this is still not fixed. Here I am typing an email address; autocomplete suggests some name that matches the first few characters, capitalising my entry; I keep typing and the capitalisation remains. The only way I can see to get a non-capital first letter is to go back and delete and replace it after I have finished typing the whole address. So basically the same damn thing that was reported more than a year and a half ago.

Who's responsible for fixing this?
