GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 271541
Read Only Calendars shouldn't present Read Only "New" Screen
Last modified: 2013-09-10 14:04:09 UTC
If you highlight a read only calendar source (webcal://) and then double click on the current date or hit New->Meeting New->Appointment it detects that the source is read only, but opens a detail screen that you can't do anything with. Users are going to be confused with that, and think that Evolution is broken. All widgets are deactivated and it looks 'broken'. If you attempt to add on a read only calendar, it should say something like "Your selected Calendar is read-only and you cannot add appointments".

punting target to 2.5; shortening the summary a bit to be able to view it in the search lists. :-)
copying comment by carsten guenther from dup bug 311168 adding additional places in UI that also have to be checked: "When creating a new appointment (or meeting) I can choose the Calendar from the "Calendar" menu in the edit dialog. This menu contains all the calendars, also the read-only ones. Picking a read-only calendar, like "Birthdays & Anniversaries" disables all the fields in the dialog. This is very confusing UI. The "Calendar" menu should not list read-only calendars in the first place."
