GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 269353
Tasks crashes during list reload while changing 'due date' in task list view
Last modified: 2007-09-18 05:53:14 UTC
Distribution: Debian 3.1 Package: Evolution Priority: Major Version: GNOME2.6.1 2.0.2 Gnome-Distributor: Debian Synopsis: Tasks crashes while changing 'due date' in task list view Bugzilla-Product: Evolution Bugzilla-Component: Tasks Bugzilla-Version: 2.0.2 BugBuddy-GnomeVersion: 2.0 (2.6.1.1) Description: Description of the crash: Tasks crashes while changing 'due date' in task list view. My task list view includes information about due date and I use the list view to change the date (I usually do not open task to change due date). Evolution crashes after several changed tasks Steps to reproduce the crash: 1. Have a tasks list view opened with more than 20 tasks. Have the list view customized to include 'due date'. 2. Go one by one and change due date (using the dropdown calendar) to something else, e.g. tomorrow :-) 3. And then suddenly after many changed tasks, it crashes when clicking on OK in dropdown calendar. Expected Results: Just don't crash :-) How often does this happen? After 10-20 changed tasks. Additional Information: Debugging Information: Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/evolution-2.0' (no debugging symbols found)...Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". Setting qa contact to the default for this product. This bug either had no qa contact or an invalid one.
Now I noticed that this crash could be caused by task list reload action when dropdown calendar is opened.
Still present in 2.0.3. It's really annoying bug, at least for me. Actually, I found 'restart' button on crasher dialog rather useful :-(
Still present in 2.0.4 and gnome 2.8. Adding back-trace caught by bug-buddy: Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/evolution-2.0' (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". This is indeed caused by the task list refresh. Will try to get a simple fix for 2.2.x, if not, will re-schedule for 2.3
Thanks, I can help with testing, just send a patch :-)

Reopening the bug as the reporter is able to see it after the fix for bug 264449. Assigning it to mubeen.
retargetting to 2.4.1 (harhar)
Jan Mynarik: I could not replicate the scenario as mentioned in http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=264449#c13 If you have built evolution-2.4.1 from the souces can you verify the following. Open calendar/ChangeLog (In source directory) Search for 264449. (To see if changes has been done or not) Also mention the download source.
I use package from Ubuntu Breezy (2.4.1-0ubuntu4). I downloaded package source (via apt-get source evolution) and the fix is mentioned in calendar/ChangeLog. I can see the behaviour change of task list in 2.4.1, the list is not flickering. But my bug remains, although the back-trace may differ now and then. Tried to reproduce it again, it crashed once in probably 10-15 attempts. Sending back-trace again. Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/evolution' (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". I wonder if e_cell_date_edit_get_type () fails to register itself in glib returning NULL. Could please run evolution from the terminal and the paste the warnings which appear when it crashes ? Thanks in advance.

Works for me with actual Evolution (2.11.92). Can you still reproduce this bug? I think there were changes in reference counting in tasks view, so it may help to you too. It also depends on "Hide completed tasks" option, probably.
Works for me now, Ubuntu Gutsy - evo 2.11.92-0ubuntu1. Please mark as fixed.
