Description Jason 'vanRijn' Kasper 2004-09-26 00:51:39 UTC
Please fill in this template when reporting a bug, unless you know what you
are doing.
Description of Problem:
in evo 1.4, I would drag my 3 IMAP mailboxes to the shortcut bar on the
left. this would allow me to see at a glance if I had any unread e-mails
in any of those IMAP accounts. in evo 2, this is not possible, obviously,
and since I can only select one IMAP INBOX at a time, the little
informative section at the top of the mail tree doesn't tell me enough. it
will tell me if the INBOX that I have _selected_ has any unread e-mail, but
not any of the other accounts.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. see above.
2.
3.

Actual Results:
see above.

Expected Results:
see above.

How often does this happen?
every time.

I'd love to see this implemented also. :)
Comment 2 Jeffrey Stedfast 2004-10-01 15:18:45 UTC
View->Folder Tree
Comment 3 Jason 'vanRijn' Kasper 2004-10-01 17:34:33 UTC
I'm using evo 2.0.0 and there's no View | Folder Tree menu option.
Can you explain, fejj?
Comment 4 Jeffrey Stedfast 2004-10-01 17:38:28 UTC
ah, guess that was only a 1.4 option. doesn't matter, the folder-tree
is always in view in 2.0 then I guess (which shows the unread counts
to the right of each folder in the tree)
Comment 5 Jason 'vanRijn' Kasper 2004-10-01 18:22:57 UTC
um. no, perhaps I didn't phrase what I need clearly enough....

let's say I have this scenario (which I do):

- INBOX (2)
 -- subfolder
 -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
 -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
- INBOX (4)
 -- subfolder
 -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
 -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
- INBOX (8)
 -- subfolder
 -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
 -- subfolder
    -- subfolder
    -- subfolder

in 1.4, I used to have icons for those INBOXes on the left hand side
in the shortcut bar, and I could easily glance at those 3 icons and
they would say "INBOX (3)" which would tell me that I needed to go to
that inbox and look for my 3 new unread e-mails.

in 2.0.0, there is no shortcut bar. there is also no view of
"new/unread e-mails" outside of the tree. the problem is that the
tree is limited vertically, and I cannot see even 2 INBOXes since I
keep its children expanded (as I filter e-mails coming in into those
destinations), let alone all 3 INBOXes.

since evo 2.0.0 has tied the visual indicator of new/unread e-mails
directly and only to the tree view of the IMAP accounts, if the user
cannot see all of his INBOXes without scrolling (as I cannot), then
the user cannot tell if he/she has any unread e-mails in those
accounts easily.

Is there a way around this (I think there's not), or is this something
that can be thought of as a feature enhancement?

thanks!!
Comment 6 Jeffrey Stedfast 2004-10-01 18:27:05 UTC
then your complaint is about the shell and not the mailer
Comment 7 Darius Mazeika 2004-10-25 18:58:27 UTC
I really miss the old functionality of Evolution v1.4 of the traybar
button. In v1.4 the count of unread mails in current folder was shown
next to icon & program name.

This saves time & clicks, since the new mail status is easily visible
without the need to come back to the mailer window.

Is it possible to have similar functionality in v2.0?

I am using Evolution 2.0.2 from Debian unstable under lt_LT.UTF-8 locale

Disregard my comment above please - I have filled it here by mistake
Comment 9 Not Zed 2005-05-19 11:50:28 UTC
the ui has changed, you could collapse the items, or you could scroll once in a
while - it wont kill you
Comment 10 Jason 'vanRijn' Kasper 2005-05-19 23:45:30 UTC
Um. Yeah, that's very nice. You're right. It certainly won't kill me to
scroll once in a while. That doesn't change the fact that evolution has a
possible usability problem that you're ignoring. And is it normal to close
wishlist requests as INVALID? Seems a trifle rude and perfunctory.
