Description Ronald Van Iwaarden 2001-07-31 20:44:53 UTC
Ssh from machine a machine to itself. From the ssh session, run evolution. The evolution session comes up without icons on the lhs of the display and no inbox can be opened.

Some of the error messages printed are "X11 auth data does not match fake data." and "Could not start up component for OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_Calendar_ShellComponent. (See previous error messages?)"

It appears that something odd is being done that prevents operation over ssh and makes evolution evolution very unusable in many situations.

Evolution version: 0.10

This works just fine for me.

Are you sure this works for other apps?

Please try to run killev before ssh'ing to localhost, and let me know
if the bug still happens.

This does not work at all for me either. I've tried SSHing from one
machine to another, and from a machine to itself. In all cases,
evolution either fails to load, or if I haven't run killev, then it
half-loads, the shell coming up, but the actual components
unreachable, and the shortcut-bar icons not showing up.

It works for me, but:

It's disturbing that you have to kill the locally running evolution
through 'killev' before launching evolution remotely over ssh. I
usually log into my home computer from work and launch evolution to
read my email and therefore have to kill the evolution session which
is constantly running on my home computer.

Wouldn't it be possible to open up a new a window on the DISPLAY at
work without killing the session running at home?
That's the expected behaviour of an X11 application.

Futuring.
