Description Dan Winship 2001-02-15 15:24:44 UTC
The view pane of the evolution window should be wide enough to fit the mailer
showing 80 columns of text plus the vertical scrollbar.

Since this depends on the choice of GtkHTML font, it can't be done by
hardcoding the size.
Comment 1 Ettore Perazzoli 2001-02-27 01:11:10 UTC
I think we can live without fixing this for now.
Comment 2 Dan Winship 2001-02-27 17:03:52 UTC
Well, note that currently
  (a) the default evolution window size gives me a mail display < 80 characters
meaning I always have to resize it
  (b) it explicitly sets itself to be that size every time, so even if I tried
to have my wm remember the size i wanted, evo would assbarn it

cc:ing myself because I find this really irritating.
Comment 5 Luis Villa 2001-08-17 15:41:31 UTC
Marking as 1.0, but removing anna since this isn't her problem and it
doesn't affect screenshots, etc. ettore: if you won't be able to fix
it, feel free to future.
Comment 6 Ettore Perazzoli 2001-09-13 23:47:59 UTC
Re-marking as "future" and lowering the priority.

We are not really doing this yet, but now Evolution remembers the
window size, so it is not as annoying as it used to be anymore.
Comment 7 Thomas Frayne 2003-06-22 00:01:48 UTC
Using RH 9.0, Evolution 1.2.2, if I exit with a non-maximized
window and restart, the window appears with the same size and
position. However, if I then maximize, exit, and restart, the window
appears maximized as expected, but un-maximizing it displays a full
size window, forgetting the previous size and position.

Evolution should start in the same state as the previous exit, and the
unmaximized size and position should be remembered, even when Evolution
starts maximized. Further, the size and position of windows such as
the filter rules definition window should be remembered.
Comment 8 André Klapper 2004-12-10 12:36:24 UTC
hmmm. unmaximizing it, exiting and then restarting keeps window size,
but not position. running suse9.2 and gnome2.6,
evolution-2.0.2.0.200412060900-0.snap.ximian.10.1, metacity-2.8.0-3.
Comment 9 André Klapper 2005-02-14 11:24:42 UTC
changing subject to better reflect the comments of all those reports
that i'm going to mark as duplicates within the next minutes... ;-)

this bug also refers to the mail/task/contact windows (double-clicking
on a mail in the message list) - they remember their size, but not
their position within a session in evo2.1.4 [this was bug 246823 and
bug 247898].

at least duplicate bug 268472 was targetted to 2.3, therefore i will
target this one here also to 2.3.

Apologies for any spam... cc'ing usability-maint on all Evolution usability
bugs. Filter on EVO-USABILITY-SPAM to ignore.
Comment 17 Sven Herzberg 2006-01-29 11:59:23 UTC
Evolution doesn't also save whether or not it's maximized. When I start Evolution, it always takes the whole area between my gnome panels, but i still can see the window border.
Comment 18 Elijah Newren 2006-04-09 02:07:13 UTC
Looks like bug 243962 is a duplicate (as per comments 7, 8, and 17), though it doesn't seem to match the title.
Comment 19 Sven Herzberg 2006-04-28 11:36:01 UTC
As the window sizes are fixed per bug 243962, I'm retitling this bug to talk about position only.
Comment 20 André Klapper 2006-05-31 13:32:48 UTC
removing old target milestone.

Position of main window is now restored at startup. Will deal with child windows on a case-by-case basis. File separate bugs.
