GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 200624
Configurable Subject for forwarded messages
Last modified: 2021-05-19 11:44:47 UTC
It would be cool to be able to specify the default format for the Subject: line in forwarded messages.
That would be cool. For the time being, could you change the default subject to something less awkward, ie, with the subject text first (say, "<subject> (Fwd from: <email address>)")?
(Should at least fix the default for 0.11.)
I apologize for the spam; re-setting all target milestones to 'future' in preparation for evolution 1.0. If you have any questions, please feel free to write louie@ximian.com.
OK, I'm making this just "configurable subject for forwarded messages" (which can be future wishlist), and bug#204596 can be the better default for 1.0.

hi I opened a opened Bug 317055 , I don't see this as a future, this is a small bug since no mail client in the world add [] to the forwarded message, I will try to download the last evolution source code and create a patch to remove [] but I think you need to reopen my bug since this bug 200624 is a future to make the customer able to change his message subject to what ever he want (this is what the bug title saying)
I'm not able to add the patch to bugzilla, in every page it ask me for my login again, I sent the patch to evolution-patch mail list
>>I don't see this as a future, this is a small bug since no mail client in the world add [] to the forwarded >>message So it looks like atleast one does. I had to waste 10mb of my download to get it but it behaves exactly like evolution. Why is it categorically wrong to prepend "["s? Maybe this should be a configuration option but again i dont want to have too many of those either. I personally would not like to change something which has been accepted for long but if majority of people think this needs to be done then i dont have too many qualms.
This about it like this since the beginning of the mail , everyone is using "Fwd:" wihtout any "[]" and only evolution use "[]" (doesn't make it better because no one complain, maybe no one had a time to complain like me :) ) so I think it's better to be like any other mail clients
sorry >This about it like this Think about it like this
from thunderbird bugzilla (which has the same problem) : https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194788 comment #4 ...the default [Fwd: %s] prefix for forwarding is not standardised and breaks threading on MUAs which understand the Fw: prefix. ....

This was fixed for Thunderbird 3.0.
I would like to bump this. Rewriting the Subject line in this manner is decidedly non-standard. This is doubly so for ews users as Outlook does not behave in this manner. At least in the case of EWS, this should be configurable, or completely removed.
really guys?! 18 years was gone and the status of this problem still is "NEW"?! the Evolution is exclusive mail client with brackets-styled forward subject, indeed!
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new enhancement request ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
