Description Surya Kiran 2005-04-01 09:10:44 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Hi,
I've recently upgraded gnome from 2.8 to 2.10, Both were installed in different
directories, and i've deleted the old one. Installation went thru fine. But what ever
application i'm running (for eg. gconf-editor), i'm getting an error on the console saying
hicolor icon theme is not installed.

=====================
(gconf-editor:13071): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not find the icon 'stock_add-bookmark'. The
'hicolor' theme
was not found either, perhaps you need to install it.
You can get a copy from:
http://freedesktop.org/Software/icon-theme/releases

for gnome-font-properties

(gnome-font-properties:27606): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not find the icon
'gnome-settings-font'. The 'hicolor' theme
was not found either, perhaps you need to install it.
You can get a copy from:
        http://freedesktop.org/Software/icon-theme/releases
=====================

But I've installed hicolor icon theme and also gnome-themes. before installing
gconf-editor.

I'm getting this kind of error with every gnome application.
And worst of all when i try to run control-center, all i'm getting is a blank wiindow with
white background.

I've never faced such kind of problems with gnome-2.8

Somebody please help me.

Steps to reproduce:

How did you install the hicolor-theme? In the same prefix as the rest of GNOME?
What version? Please give more information.
Comment 3 Surya Kiran 2005-05-12 04:24:28 UTC
I've installed every thing from garnome only. garnome-2.10.0. Hicolor icon theme
and rest of gnome apps were installed in the same prefix.

hicolor-icon-theme 0.7
garnome and gnome 2.10.0

Thanks for getting back to us with new information. If everything was built in
the right order and according to documented procedures for garnome use I have to
suggest you take this up on garnome-list@gnome.org first. Just want to make sure
this isn't a bug in garnome itself since I've been building 2.10.x from CVS
without problems for a long time.
Comment 5 Sebastien Bacher 2005-05-22 19:33:51 UTC
do you still get this issue?
Comment 6 Surya Kiran 2005-05-23 04:06:53 UTC
I've rebuilt gnome from garnome 2.10.1.1. and yes, i'm still getting this error
always. I'm getting this application with various applications, like
control-center, gnome-font-properties, etc. etc.
Comment 7 Sylvain BERTRAND 2005-06-02 00:48:03 UTC
Hi,
Compiled gnome 2.10 on a gentoo gnu/linux PC box.
It seems that I have a similar issue. Icons from the hicolor theme seem to be
ignored. Indeed in the gnome menu, I cannot see several icons.
For instance the gconf-editor installs its icon only in the 48x48/apps of the hi
color theme, and it is not displayed in the gnome menu. It is the same issue
with vino, other applications and applets!
Is this a bug or a config issue? As far as I know the freedesktop icon std has
been implemented in gnome, hasn't it?
Comment 8 Christian Kirbach 2005-08-10 08:56:42 UTC
does this still happen?
Comment 9 Surya Kiran 2005-08-12 09:52:35 UTC
Yes,
It still happens. Recently couple of days back i've compiled entire gnome-2.10
on a SuSE 9.1 machine for its default kernel using gcc-3.3.3. The default
compiler that comes with SuSE 9.1. When i start a gnome-session, several
applications crash. and several applications do not show up the icons, and gives
me those hicolor icon theme errors. I've compiled gnome-2.10.1 for some 10 times
atleast and every time i get the same errors. I do not know if its problem with
SuSE or with gnome.
Comment 10 Christian Kirbach 2005-08-12 10:25:09 UTC
I suggest you talk to the garnome mailing list first as this seems to be garnome
related.

this seems to be some icon installation problem.
I have built stable Gnome using garnome as well (on Debian) and have not faced
your problems. Perhaps it may indeed be a SuSE-related garnome problem.
Comment 11 Sebastien Bacher 2005-08-13 21:03:27 UTC
reassigning to garnome
Comment 12 Bob Kashani 2005-10-21 18:50:10 UTC
Does this still occur with garnome-2.12.1?

I'm guessing there is something wrong with SUSE...???
Comment 13 Surya Kiran 2005-10-24 03:01:10 UTC
Nope,
Gnome-2.12.0 itself works fine. I did not try with 2.12.1, but i think, you can
close this.

Thanks,
Surya
