GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 171047
gnome-cups-manager doesn't work with foomatic printer drivers database
Last modified: 2011-01-27 05:25:12 UTC
Please describe the problem: There is a problem with gnome-cups-manager - it doesn't work with foomatic printer drivers database (look at http://www.linuxprinting.org/foomatic.html ). Other printer configuration utils, like Foomatic-GUI can use foomatic printer drivers database directly. You steal some code from such projects, look at http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/foomatic-gui/ http://blog.lordsutch.com/?topic=13 Please, add foomatic support to gnome-cups-manager, then users don't need to generate .ppd files manually or through www.linuxprinting.org web interface and gnome-cups-manager will be more user-friendly.usable. Steps to reproduce: Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
yeah, that would be a nice feature, kprinter has it as well
you can get the available drivers via: foomatic-combo-xml -O -l and create the ppd via: foomatic-configure -s cups -p <printer model> -c file:<printer device> -n <queue name> -d <driver>
