Use the printer_uri host when downloading ppd files (1.48 KB, patch)

Description Martin Pitt 2005-03-17 13:29:59 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I'm using a remote IPP printer which is automatically configured via CUPS
browsing (i. e. local /etc/cups/printers.conf is essentially empty).

With libgnomecups 0.1.14 everything worked fine, but with 0.2.0 g-cups-manager
has empty "paper" and "complex" tabs.

I strongly suspect that this regression is due to the speed optimizations
introduced in 0.2, so the PPD file is not requested from the server any more
(just guessing).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Configure remote IPP printer
2. Enable CUPS browsing
3. Wait for the printer to appear locally
4. open g-c-m, select "paper" or "complex" tab

Actual results:
empty tab

Expected results:
show properties like it did with libgnomecups 0.1.4.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

I confirm this bug.
This is very annoying when using ipp printers: only the default options can be used.
Comment 2 Florian G. Pflug 2006-07-17 13:52:35 UTC
I confirm this bug too - I experience it myself using ubuntu, and I created a ubuntu bugreport for this too (#52867). Attached is a patch that solves that problem for me.

Use the printer_uri host when downloading ppd files
Comment 4 Florian G. Pflug 2006-07-23 22:57:04 UTC
Hm.. My patchs lets the gnome cups administration too function
correctly, but when printing from a gnome app, it still fails
to download the ppd :-(

I don't really understand how that can happen, since both are
supposed to use libgnomecups.

PS:
Is anyone actually assigned to this bug? It's reported
for _over_a_year_ (!) now, and still in state "UNCONFIRMED" -
altough it a _major_ bug for people who use shared cups printers.
This is frustrating.. :-(
Comment 5 Jody Goldberg 2006-07-24 20:59:01 UTC
libgnomecups is unmaintained at this point.
Comment 6 Kjartan Maraas 2008-01-29 13:09:27 UTC
Moving all gnome-cups-manager bugs to new product. Filter on Kjartan's spring cleaning.
Comment 7 Martin Pitt 2009-04-30 05:38:32 UTC
Let's close this, nobody uses g-c-m any more, and it's unmaintained.
