Description Christian Rose 2005-02-06 17:41:13 UTC
Since a couple of days there appears to be the following fatal error in the
Swedish translation (sv.po) of gnome-keyring-manager, which is likely to be
fatal for the entire build of gnome-keyring-manager as well:

$ intltool-update sv
sv.po:769: duplicate message definition
sv.po:553: ...this is the location of the first definition
/usr/bin/msgmerge: found 1 fatal error
sv.po:769: duplicate message definition
sv.po:553: ...this is the location of the first definition
/usr/bin/msgfmt: found 1 fatal error

Upon closer inspection, it seems this was a result by this commit:
http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/gnome-keyring-manager/po/sv.po?r1=1.2&r2=1.3
This commit appears to have been done by the user "tvainika" and was *NOT*
approved by the Swedish translators or the Swedish translation coordinator.

The reason the commit broke was because the sv.po had already in advance been
prepared for the "translator_credits"->"translator-credits" switch and because
of this already contained a translation for "translator-credits", which is a
perfectly valid situation.
Since the non-approved commit as a consequence of its simple, automated but not
very intelligent string change introduced a duplicate message definition, the
sv.po is now nonvalid and causes a fatal error when invoked by msgfmt, and
probably causes a fatal error to the gnome-keyring-manager build as well.

I thus would like this erroneous and non-approved commit to be reverted as soon
as possible.

In addition, I would like to remind translators doing commits of some of the
rules for using such privileges:
1) Always check po files for syntactical errors with "msgfmt -cv" before doing
any commit, and
2) Always ask for permission before touching anything else than your language's
translations.
None of the above actions seem to have been done prior to commit in this case.

Hi,

I've now undoed my change which was string surgery with ed. I thought that
doing such change would be easier for every translator of that module as regexp
for that change was also in ChangeLog of sources. Sorry.

Since the change has been reverted, I'll close this bug.
