GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 166032
RFE: Delayed automatical message deletion on POP3 servers
Last modified: 2021-06-01 22:43:01 UTC
Debian BTS: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=247492 Submitter: Matthias Georg Imhof <mgi@vt.edu> Summary: Balsa already provides an "Delete message from server after download" option, but like other email clients, this should be expanded to accommodate automatically deleting messages "[n] days after downloading" or after "deleting local copy".
"After deleting the local copy" may be painful to implement because it would require attaching annotations/persistent ID to messages to track them and their deletions and current mailbox backends do not provide that. On the other hand, deleting n days after downloading is simpler to do as we just attach download date to the message id...
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new enhancement request ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/balsa/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
