Description Joseph Phillips 2005-01-07 18:06:47 UTC
1. Installed Debian Sarge with Gnome desktop environment.
2. Using CUPS, setup Hewlett Packard LaserJet 6P printer (connecting via Samba).
3. Open epiphany web browser.
4. Select File -> Print Setup -> Paper, and choose Letter size paper.
5. Select File -> Print. Select the printer that was setup in step number 2
and then click the Print button.

After step number 5, an error box with the following message appears:

"There was a problem printing because the paper size you specified is not
supported by your printer."

Notes: I am able to successfully print to this printer from many other gnome
programs. The "Letter" size paper is the proper paper size for this printer. I
am using Epiphany version 1.4.7.

I'm experiencing the same problem with the latest Debian Sarge (Gnome 2.8), an
HP Laserjet 4, and A4 paper.

I suspect it's a system configuration problem, but I haven't been able to find a
solution.
Comment 2 Margarita Manterola 2005-02-18 16:15:23 UTC
BTW, I'm using Xprint, the printers are listed as "printer:@64" instead of just
"printer", I don't know if it's related, but I think it may have something to do
with this problem.

This has been posted here:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/epiphany-list/2004-March/msg00032.html
(got no useful replies)

Also, it has been reported here, but for Mozilla:
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.mozilla.devel.prefs/800

I'm able to print from every other program. The gnome test page prints ok,
galeon prints ok, mozilla prints ok, firefox prints ok.

These are the (Debian) versions of the programs:
Mozilla Browser: 2:1.7.5-1
Epiphany Browser: 1.4.7-2
xprt-xprintorg: 0.1.0.alpha1-8
xprt-common: 0.1.0.alpha1-8

I'm switching to firefox as the only workaround.

Same thing on Debian Sarge here

Epiphany-browser : 1.4.7-3
Mozilla-browser : 1.7.5-1
xprt-xprintorg : 0.0.9.final.001-6
Comment 4 Christian Persch 2005-07-24 11:36:27 UTC
Can you please test this in epiphany 1.7.3 (tbr next week), which uses gnome-print ?
Comment 5 Philipp Schlesinger 2005-08-31 10:34:13 UTC
with epiphany 1.7.6 this problem occurs for me, regardless which paper size is
specified.
With other applications (gedit, evince ...), printing works well.

workaround

Mozilla printing code is braindead. It only accepts a3, a4, a5, letter, legal,
executive paper sizes, and some are named differently than the gnome-print
papers. This patch should allow printing on those supported paper sizes.
Comment 8 Christian Persch 2005-09-05 12:28:40 UTC
Those that still have Epiphany < 1.8, can you check that the gconf key
/apps/epiphany/dialogs/print_paper exists of type string, and has value "A4",
"Letter", "Legal" or "Executive" ?
Comment 9 Christian Persch 2005-09-07 19:13:15 UTC
Oh and can you try to remove any lines containing "print" (no quotes) from
~/.gnome2/epiphany/mozilla/epiphany/prefs.js after closing epiphany, then
restart? Afterwards about:config should show nothing if you filter on
"print.tmp" (no quotes).
Comment 10 Christian Persch 2005-09-07 19:13:48 UTC
Upstream bug is https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=272670 btw.
Comment 11 Lionel Dricot 2006-04-11 19:20:59 UTC
This problem is fixed upstream (wow, it's the first time I've seen a not UNCONFIRMED bug on bugzilla.mozilla).

There's no problem anymore with Epiphany 2.14 and Firefox 1.5
