GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 162177
[patch] Property contextual menu on item...
Last modified: 2020-11-06 20:25:10 UTC
This bug has been opened here: https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/4836 "Hello, sometimes it's quite usefull to know the executable name of an application (because it can be usefull to know why an application don't work using console and showing warnings) Unfortunately default gnome-menu doesn't provide an easy right-click contextual menu with "Property". To know the name I need to Put the item on the taskbar (right click on the item 'Add ....') Right-click on the new item on the taskbar than Property Delete the item on the taskbar... So could you add a property shortcut in the contextual menu in the gnome menu. Regards."
Shouldn't be too hard: we can edit the file, and if it's changed, save it in ~/.config/ (or somewhere else... need to look at the spec :-))
Mass changing: milestone 2.12.x => milestone 2.14.x
Created attachment 62334 [details] [review] adds a 'menu item properties' item in the gnome menu context menu, and associated dialog should i update the properties dialog to make properties editable?
I confirm this bug. (and it is indeed very annoying). I hope to see the patch in for 2.16.
Making some properties in this new properties menu would be very useful. For example, after installing VLC, I noticed that the default start up is not with --skins2, as opposed to windows which does. To edit this was far from obvious as it involved starting the Alacarte menu editor in Ubuntu (may be different for other distros).
Did anybody have time to check the patch already?

We'd want to do this with PanelDItemEditor and make it possible to edit the entries.
Anyone know the status of this? The patch seems to exist (haven't tried it, though) and we still don't have it committed (it's not in 2.20, anyway). I do recall the "Properties" option being available in the context menu but was taken off for some reason. A ridiculous decision in my opinion. -Gezim
