Description Andrew Ziem 2004-12-04 01:31:11 UTC
1. Open Nautilus 2.8.1
2. Navigate to read-only CD-ROM folder
3. Select some files
4. Edit->Create Archive
5. Press ceate button

At this point, no archive is created, and no error message is given.

1. Open Nautilus
2. Navigate to read-only CD-ROM folder
3. Select some files
4. Edit->Create Archive
5. Give writeable path such as /home/foo/blah.zip [*** difference***]
6. Press create button

At this point, no archive is created, and no error message is given.

Major suggestion:
Allow creation of archives from read-only media (or at least, show an error).

Minor suggestion:
For Create Archive, provide a way for user to use GUI to specify alternate location.

For the record:
- I verified that I can create zip archives in a writeable folder (under
/home/myusername)
- I ran Nautilus from Gnome Terminal to see if it would print any error messages
to console (and it didn't).
