Description Ken Harris 2004-11-08 23:19:56 UTC
1. Start any program that uses gnome-print's print-preview window (like Abiword
or Gnumeric)
2. Go to the Page Setup dialog: note how big the paper should be (for me, it's
8.5 by 11.0 inches)
3. Go to the Print Preview, and click the 1:1 icon
4. Measure the paper on the screen: for me, it's 5.25 by 6.75 inches

5.25x6.75 isn't a 1:1 preview of an 8.5x11 page; it's more like 1.00:0.61

When I run xdpyinfo, I can confirm that X knows the size and resolution of my
screen. (Not exactly, but to within 5%, certainly.)

2.8.1 will get a bit closer. X still lies about the screen resolution too ofter
for it to be really trusted, but at least we now make the attempt.
