GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 156432
GUI chooses printer name poorly
Last modified: 2009-02-26 23:11:19 UTC
This bug has been reported here: https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/2667 "The GUI created a printer name based on the printer driver rather than the spool name. Windows for example, names the printer after the spool and appends server information, e.g. 'lp on http://printserver:port' from http://printserver:port/printers/lp. In a network with many printers using the same driver, having the printers all be variations on the driver name is problematic."
This bug report can be extended: There is no way to rename a printer, neither in the primary gnome-cups-manager window, nor in the printer properties dialog.

This is something I'd really like to see as well. I'm fine with choosing a name based on the driver name, but it would really help if it were trivial to rename the printer.
The "no-way-to-rename-a-printer" bug is the following : http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=158362 This is a different issue, though
Moving all gnome-cups-manager bugs to new product. Filter on Kjartan's spring cleaning.
This bug has been fixed for me for a long time and didn't had any activity for more than a year. I'm closing it as "fixed". Feel free to reopen it if needed.
