When you play a single mp3 or other format that rhythmbox handles it should give
you an easy option to add this song to your music library. This allows RB to be
a simple music player for single files and also allow a person to open new songs
and instantly play them, then add them to their library.

I have felt that there might be smarter things to do as well, like analyze the
directory for other songs and ask if they want to import the entire directory...
however those can be filed later as a seperate bug.

I'll attach a screenshot of what I had pictured.

Couldn't find any dups.

Also recommending that the player be opened in the small display view during
single use playing. Otherwise the interface can be a little overwhelming. This
will probably mess with the player interface state saving stuff.

Rhythmbox isn't designed to play single tracks - and I think that other
programs, such as totem, are much better suited to that. I think there are
similar bugs that have been marked WONTFIX.

I do think RB should look at this kind of behavior, instead of using other apps to open single files; however this bug is pretty old so I'll close it.
