GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 156122
missing diffs in download dir
Last modified: 2007-06-11 21:25:45 UTC
Please describe the problem: Trying to get from 1.4.0 too 1.4.4 (LATEST), only 1.4.3-1.4.4.diff.gz is on the servers where are 1.4.0-1.4.1.diif.gz and 1.4.1-1.4.2.diff.gz and 1.4.2-1.4.3.diff.gz? Steps to reproduce: 1. go to http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/epiphany/1.4/ 2. look for *.diff.gz Actual results: Only find 1.4.3-1.4.4.diff.gz Expected results: All other diff.gz be there like other directories on the server Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
Confirming. Re-assigning to Stric, as suggested on #bugs.
What's causing those missing diffs? IIRC, when doing install-module, it did display 'generating diff' (or sth. to that effect)...
Seems like install-module isn't doing its thing.. I don't have much to do with that one, I'm only involved in getting the stuff on window.g.o over to ftp.g.o.. and those diffs doesn't seem to exist on window either.
chpe, there appears to be no diffs for the 1.5 series either... is this expected?
No, that's unexpected too. This time I paid attention when I used "install-module" to install the 1.5.3 tarball, and it did say "Creating diffs...". It would appear this is a bug somewhere in install-module?
Re-assigning to General component, since there appears to be no product for ftp bugs nor a matching component or a 'general' component in website product.
A possible cause might be what I just observed with install-module: Creating diff between epiphany 1.9.3.1 and 1.9.4... Binary files differ, discarding diff file... When I create a diff between those tarballs myself, there are no binary files differing... and arguably just because some binary file (likely an icon) changes it shouldn't throw away the whole diff!
Moving to releng, since the script is living in our repository.
I designed it to throw away diffs when there are binary file changes, because I don't want unsuspecting users to be left with something different just because they got the patch. The patches are arguably useless these days anyway, because distros all build from tarballs and hardcore users/devels build from tarballs or svn. I'm closing this WONTFIX for now.
