Description ge99132 2004-10-01 11:51:05 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When I open the gimp, a console screen filled with error messages pops up. Every
error starts like this:
(gimp-2.0.exe:2352): Gimp-Widgets-WARNING **: gimpitemfactory.c:1168: bad
translation for menupath:
and each line displays these menupaths:
	/View/Move to Screen...
	/Image/_Mode
	/Image/Mode/_RGB
	/Image/Mode/_Grayscale
	/Image/Mode/_Indexed...
	/Image/_Transform
	/Image/Transform/Flip _Horizontally
	/Image/Transform/Flip _Vertically
	/Image/Transform/Rotate 90 degrees _CW
	/Image/Transform/Rotate 90 degrees CC_W
	/Image/Transform/Rotate _180 degrees
and many more.

Steps to reproduce:
It happens every time I open the gimp

Actual results:

Expected results:
?

Does this happen every time?
YES

Other information:
I had the same problem with 2.0.4 but not with 2.0.2 or earlier versions of
GIMP.

Well, if you had reported this earlier, we would have had a chance to get it
fixed for 2.0.5. This is a problem with the translations. Please tell us what
language you are running GIMP in so that I can reassign the bug report
appropriately.
Comment 2 Sven Neumann 2004-10-01 12:53:44 UTC
OK, figured out myself that it is greek. I had a look and the greek translation
is definitely severily broken. The translator obviously ignored the following
section from the translator's README:

When translating menu_paths, please do not translate the name of the
item_factory (that is the one in brackets at the front), e.g.
<Image>/Edit/Copy should _not_ be translated to <Bild>/Bearbeiten/Kopieren,
but to <Image>/Bearbeiten/Kopieren. If you get this wrong, Gimp will
warn you at startup about bad translations. So do always test your
translations and watch the console for output.

Will reassign the report to the Greek translation team.
Comment 3 Nikos Charonitakis 2004-10-01 18:30:55 UTC
i ll fix this as soon as possible.
1 question
i ve checked out cvs gimp-2-0 but i cant find where is translator's README
Comment 4 Nikos Charonitakis 2004-10-01 19:32:57 UTC
ok i found it: is i18n README
one more question:
i didnt find exactly these messages it decribes:
they are something like that:

#. <Image>/Select
#: app/gui/image-menu.c:275
msgid "/_Select"
msgstr ""

#: app/gui/image-menu.c:277
msgid "/Select/_All"
msgstr ""

how these 2 messages have to be translated?

example (is this right?) (every message that contains exactly "/Select/" has
remain "/Select/")

. <Image>/Select
#: app/gui/image-menu.c:275
msgid "/_Select"
msgstr "_Translation"

#: app/gui/image-menu.c:277
msgid "/Select/_All"
msgstr "Select/_Translation"

Comment 5 Sven Neumann 2004-10-03 10:24:13 UTC
No, that would be wrong since you must not remove the trailing slashes.

#: app/gui/image-menu.c:275
msgid "/_Select"
msgstr "/_Translation"

#: app/gui/image-menu.c:277
msgid "/Select/_All"
msgstr "/Select/_Translation"
Comment 6 Nikos Charonitakis 2004-10-08 00:17:06 UTC
Ok I fixed the offending messages and the new el.po is now on CVS for gimp-2-0
branch.
You can try it by giving:
   msgfmt el.po -o gimp20.mo
Then copy gimp20.mo to /usr/share/locale/el/LC_MESSAGES/ (overwrites the old one)
Comment 7 Sven Neumann 2004-10-08 10:35:31 UTC
The HEAD branch is affected as well and since we will soon start doing
pre-releases for 2.2, it would be nice if you could fix it there as well.
Comment 8 Nikos Charonitakis 2004-10-10 15:54:06 UTC
Head fixed also
Comment 9 Sven Neumann 2004-10-11 08:25:41 UTC
Thanks a lot.
