Description Damian keogh 2004-09-21 12:50:09 UTC
Steps to reproduce the problem:
Right-click the horizontal panel > Info zu GNOME (About GNOME) > GNOMES
Freunde (Friends of GNOME) link.

Link is in US, is there an equivalent German site to point to?
Comment 1 Elijah Newren 2004-11-07 20:53:33 UTC
There may be a similar page linked to from http://www.gnome.de/ (unfortunately,
I don't know German so I can't say for sure)

Damian, Elijah, could you tell if this bug still exists?

If so, could you pint the URL where this is happening?

Thank you.

Comment 3 Olav Vitters 2005-12-29 21:11:07 UTC
This is the gnome-about program.
Comment 4 Claus Schwarm 2005-12-31 10:06:51 UTC
The Friends of GNOME Program has no German site but the German GNOME User Group accepts new members and member payments; maybe also donations. However, that is not the same.

Somebody needs to find out whether we should localize the link in the about GNOME dialog where possible or internationalize the friends of GNOME program.

Thanks Claus for making clearer the issue (to me). :)

This falls beyond the website developers' capacity to decide. I have sent a post to the foundation-list:

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/foundation-list/2005-December/msg00085.html

Thanks Damian, the issue you brought is interesting.

I believe this bug belongs to gnome-desktop rather than website.
Comment 7 Vincent Untz 2006-10-01 12:21:44 UTC
Another solution would be to have a website that automatically displays the page in the correct language for the user ;-)
(I'll make the website strings translatable so that translators can change them once we branch for 2.17)
Comment 8 Quim Gil 2006-10-01 22:18:45 UTC
The revamped www.gnome.org will have an evolved http://www.gnome.org/friends/ page. We plan to have wgo translated in several languages, although at the very end this is a responsibility of the translation teams.

It is planned that wgo will have browser language detection, providing by default the language of your browser. Translated pages will have different URLs i.e. friends.de or /de/friends (to be defined).

So yes, making the URL translatable in combination of the wgo i18n might solve this bug.

Sorry to post this here, since this is not the appropriate place, but I think it's worth mentioning anyway: w.g.o/friends/ should automatically use the correct language if available (ie, it should not just be english). That's just my opinion, of course.

Anyway, continue to rock with the website revamp!
Comment 10 Quim Gil 2006-10-02 13:07:13 UTC
> w.g.o/friends/ should automatically use the correct language if available

Sorry for not being more explicit, this is precisely the behavior expected for the revamped wgo pages, that will include the current Friends page. As soon as there are wgo versions in other languages there will be a Friends/Donations page translated into those languages, and it will be accessed in the same language as the user's browser, of available.

We are not going to invest time in translate & patch the current wgo/friends page, though. So don't exepct any visible change before March 14th.

gnome-about has been removed in GNOME 3
