GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 151876
Sort folders before files doesn't work correctly
Last modified: 2006-09-10 13:30:00 UTC
Please describe the problem: When one has "sort folders before files" checked, it works w/ the some sort orders, but not others. such as, if one has a list view of a folder, sorts it via modified time (so descending by default) it sorts the folders first. If one switches it so that it's ascending order, it's sorts the folders at the bottom. Not the expected behavior Steps to reproduce: 1. check "sort folders before files" 2. change to list view 3. sort by modified so it goes ascending (oldest at top) Actual results: it sorts the files before directories Expected results: sort the directories before files Does this happen every time? 1. check "sort folders before files" 2. change to list view 3. sort by modified so it goes ascending (oldest at top) Other information:
this bug still exists in 2.10.0 (on Ubuntu Breezy)
Ubuntu bug about that: https://launchpad.net/products/nautilus/+bug/33705 "If I put Nautilus in list view, and the files sorted by date, the "show dirs before files" doesn't work well. Nautilus shows the files in descendent modified-date order, with more recent files at the top (OK), but the directories are shown at the bottom. ... http://librarian.launchpad.net/1801724/FolderBeforeFiles.png Folders Before Files ... the screenshot Folders Before Files shows that the folders are put at the bottom and not at the beginning of the list"
This appears to be fixed, not sure when it happened. It works correctly for me in 2.16.0.
The behaviour is still the same on Ubuntu edgy with GNOME 2.16, reopening
