GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 150423
gnome-vfs smb exchanges file names in 'dos charset' of samba server instead of 'unicode'
Last modified: 2006-07-03 22:27:10 UTC
I don't use nautilus, but judging from what I experienced with nightly builds of mozilla (or 1.7 release) that supports 'smb://service/share/path'), smb seems to exchange file names in 'dos charset' of samba server as Win 9x/ME clients would do. It should use 'Unicode' like Win 2k/XP samba clients do. See http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/unicode.html As for a mozilla bug (related with this), see http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ show_bug.cgi?id=255949)
The smb support in gnome-vfs 2.6 and later should use unicode. What version are you using?
According to http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255949 he was using gnome-vfs 2.4.1 .
