Description Jaap A. Haitsma 2004-08-10 19:55:04 UTC
It would be nice if GDM, just like windows xp *cough*, would include some photos
for the facebrowser. For example a horse, a monkey, a car, a flower, a
motorbike etc. And put these in one directory (e.g. /usr/share/gdm/faces ) and
not in /usr/share/pixmaps
Comment 1 George Lebl 2004-08-18 19:11:32 UTC
Feel free to submit such photos, I have asked some people for such photos before
but nobody every drew any. I can't draw, so it would not be good if I tried.
Comment 2 Jaap A. Haitsma 2004-08-18 19:28:15 UTC
Can't draw either, but I can shoot photos. Maybe I can find you some free pics
on the net, what's the best resolution for them?
Comment 3 Jaap A. Haitsma 2004-08-24 21:44:36 UTC
George, do you accept photos from this site??
http://www.ecarboot.net/photolibrary/

The pictures are royalty/copyright free, the only restriction is that you cannot
use them in a photo library.

This last part might be incompatible with the GPL
Comment 4 Jaap A. Haitsma 2004-08-24 21:47:33 UTC
BTW I already made 128x128 thumbnails out of 10 pics on that site before I
noticed that the already mentioned restriction might be a problem. I also
contacted the site with an explicit request if they can be used copyright free
in an open source app like gdm
Comment 5 Jaap A. Haitsma 2004-08-28 11:50:09 UTC
I got an answer from the site owner. He allows usage without any restrictions

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Yes you are free to use the thumbnail versions for your program.

Good luck.

This means that they can also put it in a photo gallery. But since the
thumbnails are really small, I don't think anybody will do this. Would you be
willing to give up your restriction on thos specific thumbnails I have.
Otherwise I need to search for other free pictures, which do not have any
restriction

10 faces but 64x64 pixels

Hi George,

Here are the 10 faces again but now with a size of 64x64. I find 128x128
personally way too big for faces. I noticed that gdm if you do not specify
anything always scales the image to 128x128. I would suggest to make it
standard 64x64
