gpilotd not responding to Sony Clié TJ-35 over USB

I am replacing my serial Palm V with an Sonie Clie TJ-35 over USB. Pilot-link (and kpilot) support the device fine, but gnome-pilot does nothing. $ dlpsh -p /dev/ttyUSB0 Listening to port: /dev/ttyUSB0 Please press the HotSync button now...
