This patch adds this possibility (and XML documentation for the native Win32
building)

steve, could you please
* compare with the previous bug report on win32.xml which I applied
* fix whatever needs fixing
* just commit ?

Anything that's inside the win32 parts is fair game for you; the only thing you
really need to get people to agree on is stuff that touches things outside the
win32 dirs.
