Description David Marker 2004-05-22 03:24:56 UTC
Description of Problem:
When using tabs along with the utility "screen", http://
www.gnu.org/software/screen/ the terminal will go blank, most
often if using vi. I found others have had this problem, see: http:
//zgp.org/linux-elitists/
20040108205609.GA17375@lycopodium.html for a good
description. This has been around for a while, and I have
observed it under FreeBSD 4.8, RedHat Linux 8, and now
Mandrake Linux 10.0

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. create at least one tab
2. run screen in a tab and vi some file
3. go back and forth between the tabs

Actual Results:
Sometimes the tab will be blank. As if all text is gone. I should
note that I use a black background with white text. I have not
tried with default colors.

Expected Results:
I expect the text to remain as it was in each tab, and not
disappear.

How often does this happen?
It has been consistent enough that I can't use gnome-terminal
and screen together. Which is a pity becuase the are both
excellent applications that should be usable together.

Additional Information:
I am willing to send any configuration files you may want to try
from my latest Mandrake attempt. contact me at

I confirm that...

My steps are :
1. run gnome-terminal
2. run irssi inside screen
3. create tab
4. close tab
5. wait until somethink happend inside irssi window
6. I get blank screen, and have to detatch undetach screen.

happens only with gnome-terminal, and it's not a new behaviour.

gnome-terminal-2.6.1-1
screen-4.0.2-3
irssi-0.8.9-3
ncurses-5.3-7
