GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 141850
Wording: Background/Wallpaper; sounds odd in German
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
In German, the Wallpaper translation, namely "Tapete, sounds odd. I don't want to merge the translated terms background and wallpaper, because the background obviously means the whole thingie, while wallpaper just refers to the aspects not covered by the color section of the background dialog. Is "wallpaper" really good wording? regs, Chris
Wallpaper doesn't refer to the color. It refers to the image. Translations should be factual, not literal. If "wallpaper" isn't correct in german, then don't use it. Call it "Desktop Image" instead of "Desktop Wallpaper", or just "Desktop Background". Wallpaper makes perfect sense. Pretty much every web site on the planet that offers wallpaper for download, calls them wallpaper.
