Here is a first run at the patch.
It doesn't change the glade files.
The ATI functions are just dummy.
The NVidia functions should be working.

I have a comment, but it is not directly related to your patch I'm afraid.
According to avitvout's homepage, the author of that utility has stopped
maintaining it. It's x86 only too, it seams. That's a shame, because it's
probably the only free tv-out utility for ATI cards.

Anyway, what I have tried is the following kernel module from the Gatos project,
which provides TV-out support on Radeon cards.

http://gatos.sourceforge.net/theater_out.php

It's currently under development, but I got tv-out working in clone mode on my
Radeon 9000. Assuming the user has done some configuration, the tv-out support
is triggered by switching to a pre-defined screen resolution. I guess this is a
long shot, but is there any way Totem could interact with this driver?

Comment 10 Bastien Nocera 2004-06-30 13:02:10 UTC
We will need to use HAL to detect whether the card we currently using in the
machine is ATI or NVTV.
Note: problem with dual-head platforms with mixed NVidia/ATI.
Comment 11 Bastien Nocera 2004-09-04 00:34:52 UTC
John, do you want to continue the work with the detection using HAL?
Comment 12 Bastien Nocera 2004-09-20 16:24:17 UTC
Mass reassign.

John, if you're interested in this bug still:
"John, do you want to continue the work with the detection using HAL?"

I must have missed that one the first time. Right now I'm to busy to work on this and I don't have a tv near my computer anymore, so someone else should take this.

Outdated, closing as WONTFIX.

Please reopen if someone is interested in updating this patch/working on the problem.

Hi. I am new to linux and am suffering from exactly the same problem as was originally reported in this thread. I have a Mobility Radeon 9600 graphics card and have just installed ubuntu. I have tried to plug in my tv out cable but can't get anything to appear on the television screen. Has there been a resolution to this problem?

Many thanks in advance.

I'm afraid not, but this isn't the right place to discuss it, try the Ubuntu forums.
