Description Johannes Rohr 2004-04-13 12:31:17 UTC
Distribution: Debian testing/unstable
Package: file-roller
Severity: minor
Version: GNOME2.6. 2.5.x
Gnome-Distributor: GNOME.Org
Synopsis: file roller is not a "system tool".
Bugzilla-Product: file-roller
Bugzilla-Component: general
Bugzilla-Version: 2.5.x
Description:
Description of Problem:

File-roller is not a 'system tool'.

Manipulating archives does not necessarily have anything to do with
system administration.

I suggest it should be rather filed under "accessoires" unless a generic
"tools" section is added.

Comment 1 Mantas Kriaučiūnas 2004-09-29 11:30:44 UTC
This bug is related to the bug #131247 - someone offered, that an archiver is a
System Tool (maybe because old gnome archiving tool was in this category, look
at
http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/gnome-utils/meat-grinder/archive-generator.desktop.in?rev=1.9&only_with_tag=gnome-2-2&view=markup)
and now lots of people don't find achiving utility in GNOME (for example look at
bugreport #153005 or at this email:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2002-May/msg00385.html ) :(

I also think, that manipulating archives does not have anything to do with the
system administration.

System tool is a tool, that affect the whole OS or the whole desktop, like a
system monitor.

Other archiving tools, for example KDE ark is also in the Utility category.

So, please, apply attached patch to file-roller.desktop.in ASAP.

Comment 4 Kastytis Laurinaitis 2004-11-24 10:58:56 UTC
I also agree, that file-roller should be in Accessories, not in System Tools,
now it's pretty hard to find archiving tool in GNOME :(
Comment 5 Kjartan Maraas 2005-01-11 22:25:59 UTC
I agree too, is usability on this?
Comment 6 Sebastien Bacher 2005-01-13 13:53:24 UTC
any way to get this trivial change commited ?
Comment 7 Paolo Bacchilega 2005-01-13 14:41:43 UTC
there was a discussion on irc about this issue (this is in bugzilla too, but I
don't know its number) and the conclusion was that an archive manager is a
System Tool (it was in the Accessories category once), so this is a WONTFIX.
Comment 8 Johannes Rohr 2005-06-01 12:50:34 UTC
Please explain, what justification was given for this!
Comment 9 Johannes Rohr 2005-10-12 11:49:15 UTC
So, someone has finally moved file-roller from system tools to utilities. Thanks.
Comment 10 Sebastien Bacher 2005-10-12 12:09:45 UTC
that's a distro patch, reopening
Comment 11 Paolo Bacchilega 2006-01-15 15:14:13 UTC
fixed in CVS.
