GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 138701
Upgrading from cc-2.5.4 to cc-2.6.x leaves keyboard unresponsive
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
When I upgrade from control-center-2.5.4 to control-center-2.6.0[.x] my keyboard no longer works properly in gnome. Each keystroke has some effect on the screen, but nothing is inputted to gnome-terminal, gedit, evolution composer, etc. If I back down to control-center-2.5.4 everything works again. (There is a restart between each version change).
I'm having the same problem. It started when I rebuild the whole gnome stack from cvs about 5-7 days ago.
I've only upgraded control-center, libxklavier and gnome-desktop. libxklavier went from 0.97 to 1.00 as a requirement for control-center-2.6.x gnome-desktop went from 2.6.0 ro 2.6.0.1 Backing control-center back to 2.5.4 from both 2.6.0 and 2.6.0.2 fixed the problem (without having to back down to libxklavier-0.97).
Please expand on what you mean by 'each keystroke has some effect on the screen but nothing is input' What is the effect if no character appears ? Do you have any keybindings set ? What version of X (and which distro) ? Are you using changing the xkb layout ?
In gnome-terminal the cursor flashes with every keypress but no character is displayed. I have no keybindings besides some acme multimedia keys. (Vol+/-) I'm using the XFree-*-4.3.0-64 packages from Fedora Core Rawhide. Distro is FC Rawhide (FC2-T2 basically atm, except the Xorg packages). I'm using a german keymap.
Marking this as 2.6.x, sounds evil.
Patched. Emergency release of 2.6.0.3
