Steps:

1. Start Gnumeric.
2. Type in `A1' and press [Enter].
3. Select cell A1.
4. Click on the font colour drop-down button.
5. Choose a non-black colour, e.g. red.

Actual results:
Cell A1 in still in black.

Expected Results:
Cell A1 is displayed in red.

6. Press [F2] followed by [Enter].

Actual results:
Cell A1 is now displayed in red.

Doh!  how did we miss this ?
The same was true for horizontal alignment, underline, and strikethrough.
