GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 135479
No way to close parent window in spatial and single click mode.
Last modified: 2012-08-12 13:30:03 UTC
When using the single click mode, opening a folder while holding shift does not close the previous window like it does with double click mode.
Dave, Alex? Marking high in the 'fix spatialus' vein, feel free to mark down.
Hi, I'm not sure if this is a bug. Shift + Single Click is used for range selection of icons. However, it is not working absolutingly correctly at the moment. See bug #136377 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=136377 I've attached a patch to bug 136377 to fix it. Cheers, Tony
yeah, shift-click can't possibly be used for this in single click mode. It conflicts with much more important uses of shift-click. Its possible we can use some other modifier though.

Any suggestions what modifier(s) we should use?
Ctrl+Shift + Click?
Is this bug still considered? More than one year passed since the last comment. Alt+Click may be possible: Alt is already used for some key bindings related to navigation (think of going back in Epiphany), so it might be a good choice. On the other hand, Alt+Return is used for the properties window, so it would be logical to use Alt+Click for this, too.
The shift mode seems to work as it should since quite long time, isn't it ? Maybe this bug should be tagged as 'OBSOLETE'.
(In reply to comment #9) > The shift mode seems to work as it should since quite long time, isn't it ? > > Maybe this bug should be tagged as 'OBSOLETE'. Not in single click mode. As of now, there's no way to get that feature in spatial + single click mode. Changing summary and updating fields.
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use. By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME. Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME.
