Description jgotts 2001-01-27 20:17:19 UTC
Package: gnome-terminal
Severity: normal
Version: 1.2.1
Synopsis: Double clicked words grow by a character when you move the mouse
Class: sw-bug

Distribution: Red Hat Linux release 6.2 (Zoot)
System: Linux 2.2.15 i686 unknown
C library: glibc-2.1.3-15
C compiler: egcs-2.91.66
glib: 1.2.8
GTK+: 1.2.8
ORBit: ORBit 0.5.1
gnome-libs: gnome-libs 1.2.1
libxml: 1.8.7
gnome-print: gnome-print-0.20
gnome-core: gnome-core 1.2.1

Description:
Double clicking on words in gnome-terminal highlights them normally, but
if you move the mouse up a line and down a line while holding the button
down an extra character gets added to the highlighted area. I can
reproduce this bug when the word is at the beginning of a line. xterm
and rxvt do not exhibit this behavior. Also, this may be more of a
wishlist item, but highlighted text that is scrolled off of the screen
should stay highlighted. It's mind-numbing finding your place again if
you are going through a list of items one-by-one, pasting them into the
same window. There are probably other bugs with highlighting, too.

Has this been fixed in a later release?

No, but the attached patch was posted to either gnome-list or
gnome-devel-list which fixes the problem.

The "Product" field should be changed to gnome-libs, the "Component"
field should be changed to zvt, and the "Target Milestone" field
should be changed to 1.4.1. Though I submitted the original bug
report, something broken is preventing me from doing this.

I can't reproduce this highlighting bug... Maybe I don't understand
the report. (I'm using gnome-libs current stable cvs)
Comment 5 Kjartan Maraas 2002-01-27 00:15:53 UTC
Can someone confirm this as fixed?
Comment 6 Kjartan Maraas 2002-04-26 20:31:33 UTC
I know this patch wasn't applied, but I still can't reproduce the
problem...
Comment 7 Kjartan Maraas 2002-04-28 17:38:33 UTC
Applied. I just hope it doesn't conflict with the upcoming bugfixes
from Cristiano. :|
Comment 8 Kjartan Maraas 2002-05-06 22:26:57 UTC
Hmm. The patch breaks dingus click. Unless you can fix that I'm going
to revert it. Ideas for a fix?
Comment 9 Kjartan Maraas 2002-06-12 06:46:43 UTC
The patch broke ctrl+click on urls in gnome-terminal. It was reverted
in the last gnome-libs release.
Comment 10 Kjartan Maraas 2002-08-01 11:58:04 UTC
Can't reproduce this anymore. Has it been fixed as part of some other
change? I'll close it now, but feel free to reopen again if this is
not the case.
