GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 134505
Diff against specific version
Last modified: 2017-12-13 18:43:40 UTC
It would be very nice if one could choose two versionnumbers of a file to perform a diff on. A possible scenario is that I would like to know what differs two older version of a file... Not always the one I'm coding on and the latest in the CVS-tree. As it is now the diff-view is very, very good for viewing a diff instead of looking at a patch. With thisextra feature thistoolwould be even greater!!
Some initial work done, setting target for 1.0
Unsetting target. We need a proper source code control module or else we have to implement the functionality 3 times (cvs, svn, arch).
I also want this :-) not only for "cvs, svn, arch" (what's arch? archives) but also for a single directory that contains several versions in the form of numbered backups (main.c.~1~, main.c.~2~, ... main.c.~8~) For me it would be "enough" (maybe this is even more difficult) to be able to freely select 2 or 3 files to compare, no matter if they are in the same directory or in different ones. Once I worked with Rational Rose's ClearCase. Their comparing tool has one option named "compare with other". That would be nice to have ;-) Oh, before I forget: This is one of the GREATEST programs I came across this year!!! Perhaps THE Greatest!
I also search for this feature. It would me verry nice, if i could see changes between 2 older Revisions from a file.
I like it too, so it would be great if you could see differences between tree older revisions (meld already supports three buffer comparations).

Dirk, could you have a look at: Bug 579863 – Add backup files pseudo-VC plugin http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=579863 Which implements a VC plugin that does just what you want.
Diff against specific version would be nice. We use CVS, with ssh authentication :ext:cfg.mycompany.com:/home/cfg
