Description Christian Rose 2004-02-09 23:47:28 UTC
#: libnautilus-private/nautilus-file-operations.c:1932
msgid "Files and folders can only be moved into the trash."

I think this message is somewhat unclear. It would perhaps be clearer if it
was:

"Only files and folders can be moved into the trash."
Comment 1 Christian Neumair 2005-06-03 07:15:52 UTC
No, it states something different. "Only files and folder can be ..." denotes
that there are other objects which can - in contrast to files and folders - not
be moved to the trash. "Files and folder can only be moved ..." states that
there is no other operation that can be applied to files and folders wrt the
trash (i.e. copying/linking). Any ideas how to tell our translators about that?
Comment 2 Christian Rose 2005-06-03 18:20:35 UTC
Adam, do you have any suggestions?
Comment 3 Adam Weinberger 2005-06-03 18:45:34 UTC
Well, if you just want to inform translators, put the following comment before
the string:

/* The following message is generated when a user tries to do something to a
trash can other than dragging a file or folder into it. */

I can't think of a good way to state that for the user without it sounding
technical. You might try varying "The trash can cannot be moved, copied, or
linked; it can only hold files or folders."
Comment 4 Christian Neumair 2005-06-03 19:06:06 UTC
Adam: Menthos actually listed the other meaning as msgid, i.e. that files and
folders can only be moved or copied to the trash, but no other operation can be
applied to them. For instance there can't be created a link in the trash to
files or folders outside the trash.
Comment 5 Adam Weinberger 2005-06-03 23:04:08 UTC
Okay, then:

/* The following message is generated when a user tries to do something
to the trash can's contents other than delete or restore them */
"Items in the trash can cannot be copied, linked, or moved; they can only be deleted or restored."

String does not exist anymore in 2.22.
