Bug 131569 - Nautilus icons do not appear
Nautilus icons do not appear

Description bhpascal 2004-01-15 15:16:22 UTC
Description of Problem:
Desktop icons are not read from themes, only
appear as white slips of paper. Additionally,
when switching icon theme manually through "Theme
Details," icons in gnome panel (launchers, gnome
menu, etc.) are not updated, though system pauses
and seems to be attempting to apply them.
However, changing to one of the predefined themes
(such as Large Print) does have an effect on the
panel icons, but not on the desktop icons.

Actual Results:
System pauses as if applying changes, but nothing
happens (see above for examples)

Expected Results:
Icons conform to requested theme.

How often does this happen?
All the time. Problems persist with the creation
of a new user as well, so it is deeper than just a
config file problem.

Additional Information:
Running Fedora Core 1, RPMs updated via yum with
RPMs from Nyquist -- repository at:
http://people.ecsc.co.uk/~matt/downloads/yum/devel,
no errors were reported on the install, and all
dependencies were (apparently) fulfilled.

I couldn't find any dups, and I tried to help Brian resolve this in
#bugs for a while yesterday. So, I'm adding the bugsquad keyword,
setting the priority to high, and setting the version to 2.5.x.
Comment 2 Andrew Sobala 2004-01-16 23:27:33 UTC
TARGET2.6.0.

Loads of people are seeing this. People keep coming into #bugs and
saying they see this. It's not just a couple of systems.
Comment 3 Iain 2004-01-16 23:30:33 UTC
I'm seeing it with a handbuilt system, Hallski said he saw it and
fixed it by rebuilding everything...
Comment 4 Soren Sandmann Pedersen 2004-01-17 01:32:26 UTC
Does this happen to anyone with a control center newer than November 11?

(At that date Marco added the Net/IconThemeName to gnome control
center, so if your control center is older, gtk+ will default to
"hicolor" which doesn't contain mime icons).
Comment 5 bhpascal 2004-01-17 15:16:05 UTC
Mine's newer, dated Nov. 28:

[brian@selah brian]$ ls -l /usr/bin/gnome-control-center
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 32688 Nov 28 17:57 /usr/bin/gnome-control-center

bhpascal: Feel free to reopen bugs of yours that are marked as
NEEDINFO when you add the extra corresponding information. I'll do it
now, but I'm just letting you know that you can do that in the future. :)
Comment 7 Soren Sandmann Pedersen 2004-01-17 17:12:23 UTC
bhpascal, are you sure the _source code_ is newer than November 13th?

Note that since your control center binary is from November 28th, the
only way this could be the case is if you actually checked it out of
CVS between the 13th and the 28th.

The first _released_ control center with the fix (2.5.1) is from
December 30th.

What does

     gnome-control-center --version

give you?

Comment 8 bhpascal 2004-01-17 17:55:18 UTC
Ah hah:

[brian@selah brian]$ gnome-control-center --version
Gnome control-center 2.4.0

Something seems not to have been updated properly. Incidentally,
while skimming the output of rpm -qa | grep gnome, I found this:

[brian@selah brian]$ rpm -qa | grep gnome
...
gnome-mime-data-2.4.0-3
...

I'm not sure if that's helpful, but there it is. An updated version
doesn't exist in the repository that I'm using.

Closing as FIXED.
