Description Bernhard Rohrer 2004-01-08 10:54:09 UTC
when are you planning on introducing a network view with critical path?Much
needed!
Comment 1 Lincoln Phipps 2004-02-14 03:07:35 UTC
This is Pert - Opensched http://opensched.sourceforge.net/ does this.
May be an idea to slurp up the algorithms of their code into Planner.
Ideally I'd like to see a nice GUI with a scrollable window and
movable objects as well as the printable display of the same.

Opensched source is GPLv2 - but the network.cc file is c++ and 1/3rd
of it's 660 lines or so are related to printing out the report as EPS
so not a massive job but some reading to do to gut its algorithm.

Comment 2 Lincoln Phipps 2004-03-12 03:10:21 UTC
For this I envisage a GNOME canvas on a separate view (Network View)
with scrollable horizontal and vertical (ideally with a pager/map).

The layout is automatic but there would be X/Y hints added
to the tasks (or a new schema of "hints") to position these
manually on the canvas.

Maybe some of the logic of Xplan ( see http://www.vmlinux.org/xplan/ )
would be re-usable (it is GPL but its unmaintained and thus stale and
for a different GUI but may have some usable code e.g. in the routing
of links).

Anyone know of some nice GNOME canvas examples or what to look for here ?

Rgds,
Lincoln.

As mentioned on IRC, I think this is more of post-1.0 material. We
need to focus on polishing what we have and finish the features that's
started and get out a working usable version. Then we can start adding
stuff ;)

any news?

I'm also highly intersted in this feature.
Comment 8 Pierre Morin 2008-07-02 08:46:51 UTC
Hello,

I'd like to have a PERT view before a Gantt chart too. Because I need to see *what* are the tasks and their dependencies before *when* they could be scheduled. I mean : first designing the project (PERT paths) then scheduling tasks/ressources according to a not-yet-known project's start date (Gantt).

I've just registered an account to file this comment. I'd like to thank all the gtk/gnome devs too for all the good work so far.
