GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 129268
"Application" .desktop category violates freedesktop spec
Last modified: 2005-01-04 22:02:03 UTC
When an application wants to be listed in the application menu under "Games", according to Desktop Menu Specification it should provide a .desktop file with the line "Categories=Game;". In GNOME, It also needs to provide the Application category. This breaks the spec in two ways: - no such requirement is mentioned in the spec, therefore conforming desktop files without Application won't be listed correctly in the GNOME menu - the Application category isn't listed in the spec, so it should be prefixed with "X-".
Created attachment 28646 [details] [review] Removes the requirement of the Applications category from the Games menu I'm hesitant to go yanking the Application category from anything else until someone more "in the know" about where the menus are actually going speaks up about it.
Closing this since the vfolder method has been removed. Please file bugs against gnome-menus if this is still a problem in 2.9.x
