GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 127528
National, religious, event calendars
Last modified: 2012-02-19 16:51:05 UTC
In Evolution 2.0, users can aggregate multiple simultaneous calendar sources into a single view. This means that you can overlay group calendars and other people's calendars into your own calendar view, which helps you keep others in mind while you schedule your life. The various backend calendars can even be color-coded in the calendar view. We would like Evolution to ship with a large number of calendars containing the schedules for national holidays, religious holidays, and other events of general interest. For example, calendars of sporting events or a Linux conference schedule would be neat. Because Evolution 2.0 allows you to specify a URL to a calendar, it is even possible for these to be hosted online and cached locally. This might be useful for things like the GNOME release schedule. I will do a calendar for various United States holidays as well as for the various Jewish holidays.
There are a lot of multinational calanders posted at http://icalshare.com/index.php?topic=holidays. I don't know what the copyright situation is with them, but you could probably convince most of the calendar creators to let Evolution distribute them.
I've already been trying to create an iCal file for Iranian national holidays and occasions, a country where three different calendar systems are in use, not all of which use an open algorithm. I guess nobody will be trying this for Iran, but just to let people know.
I will do one for canadian national holidays.

Created attachment 21748 [details] Hong Kong Holidays 2004, in Traditional Chinese
I have attached the official list of holidays for Hong Kong for next year, in both Chinese and English. They're both encoded in UTF-8. Just wondering, how does the iCalendar format handle translations of the same calendar entries?
Created attachment 21776 [details] American Holidays for 2003
Wouldn't it be better with a calender of the American Holidays for 200_4_! 2003 is almost over.
Why collect static, finite calendars for holidays which can be calculated in advance? The calendar mode in Emacs will happily tell you the date of the Chinese New Year in 2509 if you ask it nicely. Perhaps this should be two separate projects: 1. Produce iCal files using Emacs for predictable holidays. 2. Create iCal files by hand for less predictable dates like release schedules.

Hi, I added several calendars to this report, sent the files to the appropriate mailing list, got a message about moderator approval awaiting and then... nothing. It's kinda hard to meet a deadline when the ones who have to approve/deny the patches don't respond. I'd be willing to create lots of other calendars and documentation, but it's hard to keep motivated without any feedback... I hope I hear anything before the next bounty deadline
I'm doing a Mainline Christian Calendar for a handful of years and a lectionary(bible readings) calendar
Created attachment 31073 [details] french holidays calendar (2004/2007) in french Hello, I attach a Calendar for the french holidays until september 2007 for all zones (source : http://www.education.gouv.fr/prat/calendrier/calendrier.php). Does anyone know if these calendars are included anywhere in the GNOME CVS?
