(Cc'ing usability-maint for ideas...)

This sounds reasonable. I could put the Open Terminal/Open Tab/Close
Tab items in the popup after the Copy/Cut ones. My only problem is
that that way the first item in the popup will be normally disabled,
which is not that nice.

Errr...

I'm suggesting the Copy/Paste is on top ONLY when text is selected.
so, when text is selected, the "Copy" option is not disable

Comment 3 Colin Charles 2003-12-01 13:58:42 UTC
I feel that I agree with moving the Copy/Paste options to the top, but
people also tend to drop down to the end of the list and this is where
the new window stuff should be. When using the mouse, the top and the
bottom are the "easiest" to click. What I'd like to see:

Copy
Paste
Profile
Edit Current Profile
Input Methods
Hide Menu Bar
New Tab
New Window

I think that people use New Window more often, rather than New Tab.
Comment 4 Mariano Suárez-Alvarez 2004-05-10 07:02:05 UTC
Hasbullah, that does not work at all: people do like to open windows/tabs while
they have selected text. Firefox does have a different context menu when text is
selected which does not include the `normal' items, but gedit/evolution do not,
for example. I do not know what the HIG prefers.

Colin, the Input Methods should be at the botton as per the HIG.
In fact, the HIG would want the Copy/Paste items right before the Input Methods
item---that's what I understand from reading
<http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gup/hig/1.0/menus.html#menu-type-popup>---but
apps seem not to do that much.

I'll not move the Copy/Paste items to the top, and they should be there at all
times, iiuc. So I'll close this NOTABUG.
