Unfortunately, the machine where the problem happened is accesible for
me only in weekends.

My vague memory was that it requrired -lesd -lasound but no headers
(?).  This is probably a Suse specific problem, caused by the contents
of pkg-config files. I suspect that gnome pkg-config files telling to
add -lesd -lasound, but the libraries are not present.
