Description Guy Rouillier 2003-07-24 06:55:40 UTC
My provider news.speakeasy.net has different rules about authenticating
on-net vs off-net. I'm currently on-net and couldn't remember what the
rule was, so I just left "requires authentication" unchecked, figuring it
would give me an error right away. pan said it was connected and reported
speed on my DSL line at 0.5 KB/s (which I admit should have made me
suspicious), task 1/1, 0 groups downloaded from news.speakeasy.net. This
message flashed for about 15 minutes, then pan crashed. I watched my DSL
modem the entire time, and the lights were flashing as if something were
happening.

I brought it back up, and this time checked the authentication checkbox and
gave it my credentials. This time it gave me a connecton speed of about 60
KB/s, and the counter went up quickly.

pan should detect it's connection is being rejected, report that and stop.
