Description frb 2003-05-07 15:21:49 UTC
When I use dingus clicking, or click on a link in evolution, Epiphany jumps
to the current desktop.

This is less than an ideal situation. If I'm reading bugmail, I prefer to
open all my bugs in tabs, and then switch to that desktop to do bugzilla
work. There are other situations that I won't describe. Please make
epiphany stay where _I_ Put it.

Thanks

Theres a contradiction here.

1. Users want the epiphany window to be presented when they choose
app->internet->web browser and are using always tabs pref.

2. but if you present it, it is moved to the current workspace, we have
no control over this (afaict).

so whats the decision? Raising the window whenever you open something in
it seems pretty sane to me and is what I'd expect most likely.
Comment 2 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2003-05-07 17:18:04 UTC
gedit seems to have the same behavior as epiphany here.
Comment 3 Marco Pesenti Gritti 2003-05-09 11:34:37 UTC
Eeeeh on another bug people wants the tab pref to be ignored, and a
new window to be opened. I think in galeon1 we had a command line
switch to not raise window ....
Comment 4 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2003-05-10 15:27:20 UTC
well the question is how do we treat the always tab pref. Is it true mdi? That is sort
of how we are leaning correct?
Comment 5 Marco Pesenti Gritti 2003-05-10 16:26:43 UTC
Ihmo the true MDI thing is going to make some people unhappy. I think
many people use that pref just to have middle click open in tabs, with
an use similar to your. Prolly someone should try to think to the big
picture and get some feedback on mailing lists. I'm not very motivated
though ... not a tab lover ;)
Comment 6 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2003-05-10 19:46:45 UTC
Here in lies the core problem. We need to design how that pref works,
and what the expected behavior, just throwing stuff in will lead to
crack and feature creep and will basically fudge the ui. So i'm
incline to say leave this alone until a serious design proposal is made.

Ok so I made it open a new window now. I think it's the best short
time solution. Still designing the behavior would be important.

Evolution summary news links still open in separate epiphany windows,
instead of opening in tabs of current open window.

So, when an epiphany window is already opened, the command line
epiphany "http://www.gnome.org"
should open the page in a new tab, not in a separate window.

-n/-w options should force the respective openings regardless of Open in
new tab setting, but respect it when -n/-w are not present.

resolving wontfix. We sort of settled on the current behavior.
