GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 111294
number rounding not working under LANG="fr_FR"
Last modified: 2009-08-15 18:40:50 UTC
Hi, We have a bug reported against gnumeric-1.0.12 where number rounding does not work when the language is fr_FR. I can also reproduce this on gnumeric-1.1.16. I've tested other various langauges and they work. Details are: en_GB = works zh_TW = works ja_JP = works fr_FR = doesn't work de_DE = doesn't work Steps to reproduce: 1. Open gnumeric using: LANG="fr_FR" gnumeric or LANG="de_DE" gnumeric 2. Input "1.234567" into a cell 3. Right click on cell, select Format Cell -> Number 4. Change the precision to "2" decimal places 5. Press OK Results: The number in the cell is _not_ rounded to 1.23 as expected Reference: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19612
I doubt it. Please verify that you really have a number in the cell, for example by putting =ISNUMBER(A1) into another cell. Under fr_FR, for example, numbers should be entered with a decimal ***comma***, assuming working locales.
1.234567 is not a number in locale fr_FR. That locale uses comma as the decimal seperator. Try 1,234567 As a visual hint numbers are aligned right, and text left. I'll bet '1.234567' is left aligned in fr_FR and friends.
whoops .. sorry for the bogus report then. i swear i learnt somewhere that the europeans used "," as their decimal places. thanks guys
